5 Halloween Wreath Crafts

I found the perfect way to decorate together with my kids this October: Halloween wreath crafts! Halloween can be such a fun holiday, but sometimes having little ones can make it tricky.

We avoid anything scary and instead focus on the sillier side. For example, last year Lulu was a screaming mandrake from Harry Potter, because she screams a lot and I’m a nerd. I laughed for a while at that one!

This year, we decided to make some different Halloween wreath crafts to hang up around the house. I know people make legit Halloween or fall themed wreaths that are awesome. Buuuuut these are just for some kid crafts, so we kept it simple with construction paper for the main wreath part!

If you want something sturdier, paper plates always work great too if you have some on hand (we didn’t). As you probably know already, I’m a huge fan of doing crafts that my kids can genuinely take part in, so you can count on these being simple enough for little ones to help with or do themselves!

We made 5 different wreaths that all played into the Halloween/fall theme. There was a monster wreath, witch wreath, pumpkin wreath, leaf wreath, and spider web wreath!

Monster Wreath

• Black paper wreath
• Lots of pom poms
• Glue
• Googly eyes

This one is pretty straight forward. We used a black paper wreath and covered it with glued-on pom poms. In hindsight, a paper plate would have been better since the pom poms get kind of heavy for the paper after a bit.

Then we glued some googly eyes onto them and voila– monster wreath! Make sure to use plenty of glue and let it fully dry before picking it up- pom poms can be stinkers to get to stick!

Pumpkin Wreath

• Orange paper wreath
• Paint/crayons/markers
• Brown curly stem cut out

Every great craft time needs some crayons or paint! We chose to use paint since the kids always get super excited when it gets brought out. First the kiddos colored on an orange wreath to their hearts’ content. Then I just glued a little curly stem to the top that I had cut out ahead of time.

Witch Wreath

• Black paper wreath
• Tissue paper (purple, orange, black, yellow, green)
• Cut outs of black witch’s hat and shoes
• 2 green cut out rectangles (for legs)
• Black bat cut outs
• Glue

Lulu and Bear had a lot of fun crinkling up the tissue paper for this one. We covered the black wreath with purple, orange, yellow, and black tissue paper. Green would’ve been added too but we didn’t have any!

The night before, I cut out a little witch’s hat, 2 green rectangles for legs, and little black witch shoes. I colored black stripes on the legs using a black oil pastel crayon and glued the shoes to the bottom of them. I also cut out a few bats!

After the tissue paper was done, I glued the witch hat on the top, legs and feet on the bottom, and placed the bats to the sides. I have to say, this one was definitely our favorite to look at!

Leaf Wreath

• Brown paper wreath
• Orange, yellow, and red leaf cut outs
• Yarn
• Glue

This one was one of the more time-consuming for me, but also the prettiest! I drew and cut up a bunch of different leaves the night before in red, orange, and yellow paper.

If you wanted to simplify it I would just do more basic leaf patterns. Or even use real leaves!! I would have been more inclined to do that, but the leaves haven’t started changing here too much yet so I didn’t have much to work with.

Aside from the work done ahead of time, putting it together was easy. The kids put glue dots all over a brown wreath and then stuck leaves on it! Then I wrapped some yarn around it and made a little bow at the bottom.

Spider Web Wreath

• Black paper wreath
• Glitter glue
• Pipe cleaners
• Cut out of black spider
• Glue

As much as I dislike spiders, making spider webs is always a fun activity. I put holes around the edge of the black wreath we used, so Lulu could push pipe cleaners through them. Definitely recommend a paper plate for this one, but ours worked out OK since I helped make sure she didn’t pull too hard.

I drew lines to resemble spider webs on the paper plate and let Lu trace the lines with glitter glue. Then we glued a little spider (cut out ahead of time) into the middle of the web!

This was our first Halloween wreath crafts-marathon, and I highly recommend it! The wreaths were simple enough for my 1.5 and 3.5 year olds to help with, which we all loved. But the end results still look super cute and not all “ripped paper glued everywhere”-ish haha. It was definitely a fun and kid-friendly way to get in the Halloween spirit.
